Cookies
Last updated: 1 October 2026
A cookie is a small file a website puts on your device. One is needed to remember your choice. The rest are optional, and I don't set those until you say yes.
When you first visit you get a banner: Accept all, Decline all, or Manage cookies, which brings you here. Nothing optional runs until you choose. You can change your mind here any time.
Needed to run the site
These run whatever you choose.
| Cookie | What it does |
|---|---|
zh_consent | Remembers what you chose on the banner, for 180 days |
zh_client | Keeps you signed in while you book, after you enter the code I text you. Two hours at most; you are signed out after 30 minutes without activity, or when you press Sign out |
The site also keeps two small notes in your browser, not cookies: whether you've already seen the email sign-up pop-up, and, while you work out a price or book, the answers you've given so far. The booking answers are cleared when you close the tab.
Only if you accept
| Cookie | What it does |
|---|---|
_ga, _ga_H40NJX7VP8 | Google Analytics: how many people visit and which pages they read |
I look at these to see which guides people actually read. I don't use them to advertise to you and I don't sell the data.
Videos
Videos on this site (YouTube) are click to load. Nothing from YouTube loads until you press play. When you do, the video plays from YouTube's privacy-enhanced service (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube's own terms cover what happens from then on.
Instagram posts
Instagram posts on this site (in the Texture Review) load automatically only after you accept cookies. If you accept cookies, Instagram posts load automatically as you scroll to them. If you have not accepted, nothing from Instagram or Meta loads until you press “Load Instagram post”. Either way, once a post loads it comes from Instagram, and Instagram's own terms and cookies cover what happens from then on.
Turning it off yourself
Your browser can block or delete cookies for any site. Some parts of this site may then behave oddly. Google also offers an opt-out for Analytics at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
