Momoko
In 2014 I was asked to test Momoko, a Japanese straighteningDOWN and digital-curling range that had just launched in the UK. I already knew the factory: the Japanese company that made it had been one of my suppliers for a while. I used it on my clients, mixed with other systems, never everything on everyone. I don’t use it any more.
My notes from the time: Momoko hair shaping, December 2014 →
What it was
Momoko Hair Shaping is a breakthrough luxury treatment that offers shaping perfection and conditioning indulgence. For those in the know, the very latest and most sought after advancements in Permanent Straightening and Digital Curling, straight from Japan, are now available in select UK salons.
Permanent Straightening. Momoko Straightening is a hair straightening and smoothing treatment which will liberate you from the daily use of straightening irons […] Why not try the poker straight look for a beautiful glossy finish or opt for natural straight to eliminate frizz, reduce volume and give you an effortlessly smooth style. […] The average time between treatments is 4-9 months but will depend upon your hair type and how fast it grows.
Digital Curling. Momoko Digital Curling is the latest in curling technology and is a personalised service offering bespoke results. So whether you want bouncy curls, gentle waves or just some more body to your hair, this is the service for you. […] Results should last around 3-6 months and curls will only slowly begin to drop due to the unavoidable effects of gravity.
How does it work? Through the application of our innovative protein and moisture-rich pre-treatments, hair is instantly repaired and restored in health before some of the structural bonds that hold its existing shape are released. The hair is then reshaped by molecular reconfiguration under the influence of thermal heat. Finally, the structural bonds are re-established and fixed in the new form. […]
[…] it usually takes between 2-4 hours.
What I thought then
The products were high quality and the training was excellent. In theory every system works much the same; the difference is the hands and the judgement. So I used Momoko where it was the best fit for the hair, alongside products from other makers. That is still how I work: I mix and match, and I choose on the hair in front of me.
