For journalists

Writing about frizz, straighteningDOWN, perms or texture? I answer fast, in plain English or Hungarian.

The short bio

Zoltan Vargyai is a London hairdresser specialising in hair texture: perming since 1991, straightening since 1999. He founded and owned the Compton Hair salon group, helped bring Brazilian blow-drys and Olaplex to UK salons, and now works from Maddox Street, Mayfair.

The longer bio

Zoltan Vargyai trained in Budapest, where he did his first perm in 1991, ran his own salon and performed on stage on a L’Oréal Professionnel tour of Hungary. In London he worked at Molton Brown in Hampstead, then managed the Yuko System salon and academy on Curzon Street. From 2002 he founded and owned the Compton Hair salon group, starting in Covent Garden, and was one of the first in the UK to test Olaplex before its launch. He created his own treatments, Zolaplex (2015) and keraSWIFT, featured in HELLO! in 2017, and now works with his Straightment (DOWN) and Wavement (UP). Since 2018 he has worked from Maddox Street, Mayfair, on straightening (DOWN) and curls, waves and perms (UP), and he still cuts. He has trained other hairdressers throughout his career. His work has appeared in British Vogue, Vogue India, Vogue Italia, Harper’s Bazaar, Tatler, The Sunday Times Style, HELLO!, Glamour, Elle, The Telegraph, PORTER and the Daily Mail.
