Japanese straightening at Compton

The Yuko firsts

The Yuko firsts

1999: Zoltan became the first person in Europe to offer the Yuko System outside Yuko’s own salon. 2002: Compton Hair became the first salon in Europe with the rights to perform it. Zoltan trained in the Yuko Method taught by Yuko Yamashita herself, and was the first to perform the Yuko System on Afro-Caribbean hair.

Upon the arrival of the Yuko System in salons around the world, our Head Technician and Creative Director, Zoltan trained in the Yuko Method taught by Yuko Yamashita herself at the Yuko Academy. Compton Hair then became the first salon in Europe that had the rights to perform Yuko Repair. We have been performing the Yuko Method successfully ever since with only the best results.

[…] Also, unfortunately, Yuko straightening does not work on Afro hair types, as "they" say however at Compton we have tested and performed it with success many times!

Compton hair has been a pioneer in new techniques in the field of hair straightening. We were the first salon who was authorised by Yuko London, to perform the Japanese Yuko hair straightening technique outside the Yuko London salon.

Get Ultra-Straight Hair with the Japanese Hair Straightening System Yuko

If you yearn for poker straight hair everyday and can't keep away from the daily ritual of flat irons and anti-frizz products then YUKO hair straightening system could be the answer to your hair prayers. A pioneering hair restructuring technology from Japan, Yuko straightening system smoothes curly, dry, and unruly hair permanently with a revolutionary system that uses heat to restructure the hair's protein bond.

The Process can take between 4-6 hours depending on the length and thickness of your hair but the results will last for 12-18months.

"This is an incredible straightening system from Japan, it is a long process but if you want poker straight hair everyday this is the system for you" says Zoltan our Creative Director.

Compton Hair always insists on holding a consultation before a client commits to the system as Yuko is not suitable for every hair type. People with chemically treated hair cannot always have the service as it could leave the hair over processed. It is not recommended for pregnant women and some salons believe it does not work on Afro hair however Compton Hair has tested it with great results.

Go Straight the Yuko Way: Straight Hair all Year Long

The Process:

  • The solution is applied directly onto dry hair section by section - in a similar way to how colour is applied
  • This is then left for 15mins - during this time the solution breaks down the outer layer of the hair shaft, leaving the hair weak and stretchy like elastic
  • The hair is washed removing the solution and a straightening serum is applied
  • Hair is then ironed out section by section for the ultimate restructuring
  • The result, straight, smooth, sleek and shiny hair every day!

[…] Price starts from £200 - £370 […]

Notes to Editors: Yuko System was founded by Yuko Yamashita in Kyoto over eighteen years ago. Zoltan Vargyai was Head Technician and Creative Director at the Yuko Academy and was trained by Yuko Yamashita herself. Compton hair was the first salon in Europe to have the rights to perform Yuko Repair.

The Yuko hair analysis

The sheet Zoltan worked from before every Yuko straightening: read the hair first, then set the solution, time, sections and iron to it. It is how the method thinks. (Zoltan’s copy, file dated January 2015; the wording follows the sheet.)

Coarse hair (oleophilic: takes to oil, not water)
Healthy, virgin hair · cystine bond · water absorption poor when misted
Soft hair (hydrophilic: absorbs water readily)
Damaged, chemically treated hair · hydrogen bond · water absorption good when misted
SolutionA little more (a generous amount)A little less
TimeLongerShorter
Application sliceSlightly thinnerSlightly thicker
Iron temperatureHigherLower
Iron sliceSlightly narrowerSlightly thicker
PressSlightly more steadySlightly more gentle
  1. Look carefully: the condition is different in each section (hairline, roots, ends).
  2. Process with the mixed hair types in mind (wavy, curly, frizzy) in every part and section.
  3. At the consultation, ask about hair history and home care: oil products and frequent ironing coat or damage the hair, and the solution won’t control well.
  4. Ask whether they have had another straightening system or chemical treatment: the result will be different.
  5. At the consultation, plan the client’s future cut and colour too.
