S-curl perm: loose waves through the lengths
The short answer
An S-curl permUP gives loose, soft waves that run down the lengths in an S shape. It’s the relaxed, lived-in wave: more movement than a C-curl, softer than a proper curl.

Waves that bend one way, then the other, down the length of the hair. The root usually stays flat or only lightly lifted.
How it’s done
The lengths are wound on medium to large rods and processed, often as a heat permUP so the wave comes out clean and shiny when dry. The size of the rod decides how tight the S is.
Who it suits
Straight or slightly wavy hair from the shoulders down, that has enough strength to take a permUP. It suits people who want to air-dry and go.
What to expect
A heat permUP looks its best dry and looser wet. The first week it will be at its tightest; it relaxes into its real shape after a few washes.
How it grows out
Softly. Because the wave is in the lengths, there’s no hard line at the root.
