A digital perm on a fringe
The short answer
A fringe can be permed on its own for a soft curve or a curtain shape. It’s a small, quick job, but it sits right next to the skin, so it needs a gentle lotion and a careful hand.

A soft bend that stops a fringe falling flat or splitting, or curtain-style waves that sweep to the sides.
How it’s done
Only the fringe section is wound, usually on large rods, and processed for a short time. The skin around it is protected.
Worth knowing
Fringes are cut often, so the perm is cut off quickly too. And a fringe that is very short may not wrap round a rod at all.
What I look for
Before I choose anything, I look at:
- Your natural pattern.
- Your condition.
- Your previous chemical history.
- Your colour history.
- What you want the hair to do.
- How far the hair needs to move.

If the hair cannot safely do what you are asking, I say so.
Sometimes it is: No.
Sometimes it is: Not yet.
Sometimes it is: We need to do less.
Sometimes the hair needs repair first.
