For men · Maddox Street, Mayfair

Round the corner from your barber. A short trip from home.

Maddox Street is a minute from Oxford Circus. Wherever you are in west or central London, you're one or two Tube stops from hair that does what you tell it.

  • 1–2 stopsfrom most of west London

Mayfair and St James's

You're on foot. Men from the offices round Berkeley Square, St James's Square and Jermyn Street come in at the end of the day or on a morning they've kept clear. Top only on a crop is the quickest thing I do.

Knightsbridge and Belgravia

Piccadilly line from Knightsbridge to Green Park, then one stop on the Victoria line to Oxford Circus. From Belgravia, the Victoria line runs straight up from Victoria.

What men from here usually want: the weekly blow-dry gone. Thick, wavy hair calmed so it dries into shape with a towel and hands. Straightment Demi, or Permanent if the curl is strong. I choose; you pay the men's price.

Chelsea and the King's Road

Sloane Square to Victoria on the District or Circle line, then the Victoria line to Oxford Circus.

What men from here usually want: texture. A textured crop or curtains that actually hold, so the clay has something to grip. Wavement Cold, top only, sides left for your barber.

Kensington and South Kensington

High Street Kensington to Notting Hill Gate, then the Central line to Oxford Circus. From South Kensington, the Piccadilly line to Green Park, then one stop on the Victoria line.

What men from here usually want: the grey that's come in wiry, calmed so it lies with the rest. And a straight answer about a grey blend: some treatments can warm it, and you hear that first.

Notting Hill and Holland Park

The Central line runs from Notting Hill Gate and Holland Park to Oxford Circus without a change.

What men from here usually want: curls kept, frizz gone. Or the Korean look on top with the sides flat. Tell me which; they're different jobs.

Marylebone and Fitzrovia

You're next door: cross Oxford Street and you're on Maddox Street.

What men from here usually want: sides that stick out tucked in, a cowlick at the crown calmed down, and nothing that looks done.

St John's Wood and Primrose Hill

The Jubilee line from St John's Wood to Bond Street, then a short walk. Or through Regent's Park on a dry day.

What men from here usually want: fine or thinning hair lifted at the root so it looks fuller. No curl, nobody calls it a permUP.

Before the trip

  • Online consultation, £9.95: a questionnaire and six photos so I can prepare, then I call you back within 72 hours, usually the same day. It covers my own treatments only.
  • I don't cut men's hair. Keep your barber, or if you need one, I can refer you on.
  • By appointment only. There may be one other client in. Men book here all the time.
